Congratulations to Fridley High School senior and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma candidate Yangchen Namgyal who was named a Commended Student by the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.
Yangchen earned this Commended Student recognition based on the score she earned on her Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October 2018. Out of 1.6 million student entrants, only 34,000 students across the nation receive this recognition and Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable natural resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
Following graduation in May 2019, Yangchen plans to attend the University of Chicago to major in environmental science.
